Guess That Quote

Published by Kirsten under Movies, Tag

Alyndabear has a meme of sorts on her blog about movies. Since I got one right, I thought I’d post it here.

  • Pick 15 of your favorite movies
  • Go to IMDB and find a quote from each movie
  • Post them here for everyone to guess (One guess per person please - don’t be trying to steal the spotlight!)
  • Strike it out when someone guesses correctly in the comments, and put in who guessed it and the movie.
  • No Googling, IMDB or otherwise searching online or I will hunt you down and bitchslap you!!!!
  1. I heard that Hell is when all your dreams come true.
  2. If I feel you’ve changed, I’ll tell you. I’m honest. Unlike some people, I tell it like it is.
  3. You made a woman meow? When Harry Met Sally. Yay Puppie!
  4. Only one thing in the world could have dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window. A Chrismas Story. Way to go Amy!
  5. I like to smile. Smiling’s my favorite. Elf. Amy again!
  6. I’m so rich, I wish I had a dime for every dime I had.
  7. Chickens! You guys have chickens! Are they extra crispy or original recipe? Son in Law. Oh No Amy!
  8. Listen up, you little spazoids! I know where you live and I’ve seen where you sleep. I swear to everything holy that your mothers will cry when they see what I’ve done to you!
  9. Everybody’s born knowing all the Beatles lyrics instinctively. They’re passed into the fetus subconsciously along with all the amniotic stuff. Fact, they should be called “The Fetals”. Sliding Doors. Hooray Robyn!
  10. We’ve come for your daughter, Chuck.
  11. No, no. Psychopaths kill for no reason. I kill for *money*. It’s a *job*. That didn’t come out right. Grosse Pointe Blank.  Yay Robyn!
  12. If word got around that I had been liberated for half a million dollars, I could never show my face in polite society again. Diamonds have no value except that which is placed upon them.
  13. I looked into it more deeply and I found that apparently what happened is that he was laid off five years ago and no one ever told him about it; but through some kind of glitch in the payroll department, he still gets a paycheck. Office Space. Did you all know that Amy just had an adorable little baby?
  14. Dear Lord, we ask that you bless this food to the nourishment of our bodies. And we ask forgiveness, Lord, for the fornication that Mr. Sprock and me committed this morning on this very table.
  15. “My water just broke!” “But we’re on a dam!” Fools Rush In. Yay for Alyndabear!

The Great Christmas Meme of 2007

Published by Kirsten under Holiday, Tag

Most of you know I’m not too fond of memes. Actually, I’m not too fond of the obligation to do them when I’ve been tagged. This time, I haven’t been tagged that I know of, but I’ve seen this one going around and thought, in the spirit of the season, that it would be fun.

1. Wrapping or gift bags?
A bit of both, really. It all depends on what the item is, how motivated I am to make it look good, and what kind of variety I want under the tree. I’m still trying to get rid of some awful wrapping paper I bought on sale when I was 3, so I tend to use that a lot and save the gift bags for “Oh-crap-I-need-to-buy-a-present” gifts.

2. Real or artificial tree?
I’ve had both. I like the ease of setting up a real tree, the smell, and the fact that I don’t need to find anywhere to store it for 11 months. I don’t like the cost of buying a new tree every year. On the artificial front, I like not paying for a new tree every year but I HATE HATE HATE fluffing it up. That hatred comes from 2 years of helping set up the holiday display at the mall for Officer Friend.

3. When do you put up the tree?
When I get around to it. Sometimes it’s Thanksgiving weekend, other times, like last year, it’s not at all.

4. When do you take the tree down?
Usually New Years or within the next few days. I don’t like to eradicate all signs of the holiday before it’s actually over.

5. Do you like egg nog?
I’ve never actually tried it, but if I haven’t tried it by now it probably means that there’s a good chance I won’t like it. It sure doesn’t sound appetizing.

6. Favorite gift received as a child?
I really can’t remember anything that sticks out as being the most totally awesome gift ever, but once I bought my house my mom gave me a Braun Multi Mixer, which is quite the nifty little thing, and it’s not a unitasker, which I love because I really try to keep the single-use appliances from breeding in my kitchen.

7. Do you have a nativity scene?
Not a formal one, though I used to have a small frosted glass set. Not sure what happened to it - I last remember having it in my condo in MA.

8. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
I can’t say that there was any one particular one that was the worst, though there have been a lot of disappointments, mostly things that people get me just for the sake of getting me something.

9. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Snail mail. I would love to take the time to craft them, since I love papercrafts (though I don’t know if I’m really any good at it), and I would really like to spend time on a more personal message, but I get so uninspired and usually end up doing the assembly line thing with a box of store bought cards. Since I’ve had my blog, I’ve put my blog address in the cards and done a Christmas post “brag letter”.

10. Favorite Christmas Movie?
A Christmas Story. My mom took me to see in in the theater when it came out, and I really liked it even though I didn’t get a lot of the humor at the time. (Gimmee a break - I was 9 when it came out.) Since it’s been shown on TV for 24 hours starting 8pm on Christmas Eve (check your local listings), it’s become a favorite tradition to fall asleep with the TV on.

11. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
I try to start before the rush, really I do. But I do love the excitement of the shopping season, and tend to go as beserk as my wallet will let me right up until Christmas Eve.

12. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
All of it.

13. Clear lights or colored on the tree?
Usually clear, once in awhile multi-colored, but never, ever all blue (Ew. Just - ew.)

14. Favorite Christmas song(s)?
Oh, it depends, but I always tend towards the classics. But when I started typing this, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” popped into my head. The version by Perry Como is my favorite.

15. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Travel is fun, but hectic during any other time of the year, but totally insane with presents. I’ll stay home, thanks.

16. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Hey kids! You know Dasher and Dancer, and Prancer and Vixen. Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen. But do you recall the most famous reindeer of all? That’s the intro to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as sung by Harry Connick, Jr.

17. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Star, but not with lights in it.

18. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?
Christmas Morning, of course.

19. Most annoying thing about this time of year?
The fact that there’s even more to do than usual. Shopping, wrapping, cooking, parties all the freaking time and not a moment to rest. Oh, and the parking lot at the mall.

20. Do you decorate your tree in any specific theme or color?
It depends on my mood when I start to decorate. One year I did a snowflake theme, and some years I like classic red and gold. This year I just put it all up, because for some reason I don’t seem to have as many ornaments and decorations as I thought I did.

21. What do you leave for Santa?
I’ve lived alone for so long so I haven’t left anything out for the big guy in a long time. My stepmother never really encouraged the tradition, either.

22. Least favorite holiday song?
I never cared for “Feliz Navidad”, even as a kid. And “A Wonderful Christmas Time” by Paul McCartney is a bit of a turn-off, as it reminds me of some of the experimental stuff my middle school music teacher would do.

23. Favorite ornament?
It’s not one I own (yet). It’s a pale green fancy beady egg ornament that my mom has, and it always gets hung at near the top of the tree, away from cats and kids.

24. Family tradition?
Since I grew up and moved away from home, there haven’t really been any traditions. But before I moved away, I used to love Christmas with my Dad’s family. It’s almost like a recycled holiday, the same exact thing every year, but I love it - along with the recycled boxes!

25. Ever been to Midnight Mass or late-night Christmas Eve services?
My church in NH has a candlelight service at 11pm. Here, it’s at 9pm, which is a bit early for my taste. I’m not sure yet if I’m gonna go this year, since I haven’t been to church in months, but that’s another post for another time.

If you want to do this meme, go for it. I’m not going to tag anyone specific because I know how that feels.

Tagged Again

Published by Kirsten under Tag

This time I was tagged by Robyn. Thanks a bunch.

The rules: Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those tagged need to write in their blogs the 7 facts, as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag 7 others and list their names on your blog. You have to leave those you plan on tagging a note in their comments so they know that they have been tagged and to read your blog.

1. I just moved in with my boyfriend. This is the first time I have lived with a significant other.

2. I’m a total carb-o-holic. I’m trying to cut down though.

3. I am also a chocoholic. That one I’ve got under control.

4. I love cheese, but can’t eat it when it comes to dessert. Also, I like lemons but can’t eat them when they’re involved in a savory dish. Go here for more info.

5. I read lots of blogs every day, and am always looking for more interesting blogs to read.

6. I’m very connected to my music. I don’t make music, but I really enjoy participating in mix CD exchanges.

7. I hate these silly meme things, yet somehow people still think it’s fun to tag other people. I’ll be a good sport about it, but come one now!

I tag no one. Someone has to stop these things.

Another Meme

Published by Kirsten under Blog, Tag

Thiss time I was tagged by PARLANCHEQ, so here goes:

1. What time is it?

Sometime in the afternoon

2. What was the last thing you had to eat?

Dark Chocolate and Cherry Cordial Hershey’s Kisses and a Diet Pepsi. I like to eat healthy.

3. What is your favorite television program?

I barely have time for tv anymore, and with all the crap on tv, what is there worth watching?

4. You can travel anywhere in the world; one destination per day from Friday through Monday. Where do you go?

Assuming the logistics of the actual transportation don’t take any time, I’d love to visit, in no particular order, Sydney, London, Florida Keys, and, um, well, one really great day of a road trip.

5. Who is your favorite character from a cartoon or comic strip?

How old are we here?

6. What would you like for breakfast?

Chocolate.

7. Who is the first public figure that comes to mind that you think is attractive?

The fact that I can’t think of anyone off the top of my head gives me the sign that I should probably not even attempt to answer that question.

8. Who, outside of your family and “God”, has had the greatest impact on your life?

My friends.

9. You retrieve a bottle floating in the water. What does the message say that you find inside?

5 cent refund CA. Please Recycle.

10. What movies do you select {limit of six} for a one-day film festival?

Whatever strikes my fancy at the moment, but they’d have to be funny or I’ll fall asleep watching movies all day long.

11. Do you have a hobby? If so, what is it? If not, what do you think would be of interest to you?

Blogging! (same answer as Parlancheq, but what kind of answer do you expect from a meme going around the blogosphere?)

12. Given the opportunity to travel back in time, when would your destination be?

Oh, I think I’d choose the 1940s. Or at least 1939 to visit the World’s Fair. My Gram says it was amazing.

13. Vietnam gave us China Beach. M*A*S*H came from the Korean War. What will the name of the television series be that results from our current state of military affairs?

Green Zone

14. What is the last book you read?

It was adult-oriented, and that’s all I’m going to tell you.

15. What five people do you MEET in Heaven?

I’ve never been to Heaven, and I don’t know anyone who’s been to Heaven and back, so how am I supposed to answer that? Guess?

16. What five people do you VISIT in Hell?

I don’t know, because I don’t think I know anyone in Hell.

17. What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you see the word pleasure?

:-) And not the emoticon, either. I just can’t say here because this is a PG-13 blog.

18. Eliminating price and availability as considerations, what six things do you put on your list when you go grocery shopping?

Fresh Lobster
Gourmet Chocolate
My Grandma’s REAL Swedish meatballs (I say real because she’s a real Swede)
Lingonberries, since they go with Swedish meatballs
Fresh Pasta
The absolute bestest homemade alfredo sauce

19. What is your favorite non-blog related link?

I’d have to go with Google, but I also visit a few message boards regularly.

20. What will the title of your life story be?

I’m only a third of the way through my life, so I haven’t come up with anything yet. Gimme a couple more decades and I’ll have something for you.

21. What three people alive today would you like to have join you for dinner?

My sister and her kids (ok, that’s four, but I can’t leave any one of the kids out)

22. Which candle scent do you find most pleasing?

I tend to go for the cleaner scented candles over the ones that smell like something obvious.

23. What question would you suggest I include the next time we play this game?

None. In fact, take a few of them off. I hate these things. In which case, I tag no one.

Five Reasons Why I Blog

Published by Kirsten under Blog, Blogger, Tag

I was tagged by Macoosh to answer this, so here goes.

  1. I love the chance to express myself. While I don’t necessarily like being the center of attention, this is a chance for me to be as expressive as I need to be, but in a stealth-like way.
  2. I can get out all my thoughts the same way I do with my private, hand-written journal, but with an audience, I feel like writing here has a better chance for results.
  3. It gives me the opportunity to expand my technical knowlege - pretty much everything I know about html and css is because I wanted to tweak my blog, so I made myself learn it.
  4. It wasn’t a reason at first, but it’s a lot of what keeps me going: I’ve made a lot of friends blogging, and those friendships are what make blogging a much richer experience.
  5. Because I can.

So there’s that. I’m not going to tag anyone specifically, so if you want to do this meme, go right ahead.

Housekeeping A to Z

Published by Kirsten under Home, Tag, To Do

(taken from Chitowngal who took it from Poi who took it from Henna)

aprons - y/n?
nope, I don’t have any, therefore don’t wear any. Perhaps I should though.

baking - y/n?
If I can cook it in a toaster oven, sure.

clothesline - y/n?
No, nowhere to put one. But I do have clothespins.

donuts - ever made them?
Nope, but I might have to start because there are no Dunkin’ Donuts here.

everyday - one homemaking thing you do everyday?
Homemaking? Daily? You’re kidding, right?

freezer - do you have a separate deep freezer?
I live in a studio apartment. That should tell you what you need to know.

garbage disposal - y/n
Now this I have. I like using my disposal.

handbook - y/n?
Well, my mom brought me to see this show for my First Annual 29th Birthday, and I bought the DVD after the show. It came with a handbook. I can’t do anything in it though. Cuz I’m a girl.

ironing - love it or hate it?
Hate it. I avoid it to the point that I wear mostly knits.

junk drawer - where is it?
I don’t believe in junk drawers. Everything should have a proper home.

kitchen - design and decorating?
One of these years, yes. But right now I live in a van down by the river studio apartment. I can try to give it all the love I have, but it’s still gonna be a tiny, horrible kitchen.

love - what is your favorite part of homemaking?
How about “home - what is your favorite part of lovemaking?” to which I answer NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS!!!!!!

mop - y/n?
Mop? I’m confused.

nylons - wash them by hand or in the washer?
I live in the desert. It gets very hot here in the desert. Hotter than the sun sometimes. Nylon has a very low melting point - about 420-430 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore, I don’t wear nylons because I don’t want them to melt onto my legs.

oven - do you use the window or open it to check?
I don’t use the oven. I use a toaster oven. I live alone, don’t forget. No sense firing up the big old oven to cook a little something for myself. Did I mention that I live in a studio apartment?

pizza - what do you put on yours?
Sauce, cheese, and sometimes I like sausage and onions on it. Just as long as it’s not spicy. And it’s not on me.

quiet - what do you do during the day when you get a quiet moment?
A quiet moment during the day? Nothing, it’s too short. But if there are enough of them all strung together, then I take a nap.

recipe card box?
I have a bunch of cookbooks that I don’t use because I’m rarely home to eat. Does that count?

style of house?
Dumpy, needs to be renovated 20 year old studio apartment. But it’s a good size for a studio.

tablecloths and napkins - y/n?
Tablecloths no. I tend to drag them off the table with my thunder thighs when I sit down. Napkins are a necessity. Can’t live without them.

under the kitchen sink?
cleaning supplies and tools. Neither of which I use very often.

vacuum - how many times a week?
I vacuum semiannually. People actually vacuum multiple times per week?

wash - how many loads do you do a week?
1? 2? It depends on how many clothes I wear.

x’es - do you keep a list of things to do and cross them off?
I am a compulsive list maker. I am not, however, a compulsive list-crosser-offer.

yard - who does what?
I live in a VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!!! The landscapers take care of all that.

zzz’s - what is your last homemaking task for the day?
I may or may not be home for my last task of the day. And it may or may not have to do with homemaking.

I’m Still Smarter Than Most of You!

Published by Kirsten under Smart, Tag

Gale challenged her readers to an IQ test, found on Blogthings. Here’s what I got:

Your IQ Is 125

Your Logical Intelligence is Below Average
Your Verbal Intelligence is Genius

Your Mathematical Intelligence is Genius

Your General Knowledge is Exceptional

Though I did score higher than Gale did, I did not score quite as high as I did on a more in-depth test I took last year. You can see the results of that test here. But if we average them out, I have an IQ 136, which I am still quite happy with. What is your IQ on the Blogthings test vs. the Testriffic test?

From Robyn, with Comments Added

Published by Kirsten under Random, Tag

I feel old. I was…

  • 27 years old at the time of the 9-11 attack on America. It was scary day, I won’t ever forget it
  • 25 years old on the first day of Y2K and very hung over.
  • 23 years old when Princess Diana was killed in a car crash. I cried when I saw the princes walking behind the casket
  • 20 years old at the time of Oklahoma City bombing. I felt sick to my stomach when I heard that there was a daycare that was directly hit
  • 20 years old when O. J. Simpson was charged with murder. What a circus that was!
  • 18 years old at the time of the 93 bombing of the World Trade Center. I woke my mom up from a nap to tell her.
  • 16 years old when Operation Desert Storm began. I was hoping to be the first generation that had never seen our country at war. I cried because I wasn’t.
  • 15 years old during the fall of the Berlin Wall. There were some German exchange students in my school. What an experience that was for them, being in America when history was being written at home.
  • 11 years old when the space shuttle Challenger exploded. I was in 6th grade. I remember this day vividly, because my 5th grade teacher applied for it.
  • 9 years old when Apple introduced the Macintosh. I don’t remember the actual release of this, but I do remember using the Apple IIE in elementary school.
  • 9 years old during Sally Ride’s travel in space. This was so not a big deal to me. I don’t even remember it.
  • 6 years old when Pres. Reagan was shot by John Hinckley, Jr. I didn’t even know about this until nearly 20 years later when I read an article in Reader’s Digest.
  • 5 years old at the time the Iran hostage crisis began. I remember being in 1st grade watching the hostages being released on TV. I had no idea what the significance was at the time.
  • 2 years old on the U.S.’s bicentennial Fourth of July. My aunt still has some of that bicentennial eagle, flag, 1776/1976 decor in her house. She’s working on it, though.
  • not yet 1 year old when President Nixon left office. All I get out of this is to tell people that I was born during the tail end of the Nixon administration. Doesn’t work, though - they still think I was born during the Reagan era.

Did I mention that I am getting new gray hairs daily? I may need to rethink this natural redhead thing.

Quiz found here.

Holiday Song Tag

Published by Kirsten under Holiday, Music, Tag

Macoosh tagged me with this Christmas song meme. Since it’s in the Christmas spirit, here goes:

1. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Lou Rawls. Classic, just classic.

2. Christmastime is Here by the Charlie Brown Kids (aka Vince Guaraldi). Always gets me in the holiday spirit, just like the tv special.

3. Jingle Bells by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters. My favorite version of this song. It’s the same version that’s played on the radio during the Christmas morning scene in the movie “A Christmas Story.”

4. Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Bruce Springsteen. One of the most fun holiday songs I can think of.

5. When My Heart Finds Christmas by Harry Connick, Jr. Can I just say that I love this man’s music? His holiday songs are instant classics and easily fit in with the rest of my holiday collection.

I must add, of course I love all the traditional Christmas hymns that we sing in church, from O Come O Come Emmanuel (usually sung on the first Sunday of Advent) to Silent Night, which closes our Christmas Eve candlelight service. There’s nothing like celebrating the birth of Christ to really get me in the mood. After all, Jesus is the reason for the season.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to upload my entire holiday CD collection to iTunes. And I don’t really feel like tagging anyone right now. It took me over an hour to compose this post because I had to drag out all my holiday music.

Tagged - Thanks a Lot, Macoosh!

Published by Kirsten under Tag

You’d think I’d get a little sympathy due to my injury, but nooooooo, with my hand in a cast there is still a great demand for my typing. So here goes.

9 Weird Things/Habits about Myself

  1. I sleep with my teddy bear - it’s just the right size to wrap my arms around.
  2. I always eat one thing at a time. I have a hard time with casseroles because of this.
  3. I was afriad of nearly everything as a kid. I grew out of most of it, except legless reptiles.
  4. I won’t eat anything that resembles something I’ve seen in my nephew’s diaper. This means that black beans, refried beans, guacamole, etc. are out.
  5. I have never had stitches, but I’ve had staples to close a surgical incision.
  6. I refuse to wear pink. Period.
  7. I hate coffee and anything coffee flavored. I even hate mocha, which is half chocolate, and I’m a chocoholic.
  8. I had a serious aversion to arithmetic as a child. I’ve since gotten over it.
  9. I have this weird thing about eyeballs. I can watch all sorts of medical shows/procedures until it comes to the eyes. I will never wear contacts, and I will continue to refuse a glaucoma test until they can figure out a way to do it without assaulting my eyeball.

So, now I’m supposed to tag 9 people. Don’t hate me, my hand is broken. So, in no particular order, Courtney, Penny, Megan, AJ, Gouda, Dr. A, Parlancheq, Gem, and VegasRic. Sorry, all.

Top Five Songs I Want Played At My Funeral

Published by Kirsten under Music, Tag

Thanks a lot, Macoosh. This one’s hard, I’ve never really thought about it before. But, I guess I’ll give it a shot.

In no particular order:

1. Flying Home (Brenda’s Song) by Chantal Kreviazuk: “But if you’ve seen the love that’s in her eyes, then everything is good, and if you know the way she felt inside, she’s flying where she should. I never believed we’d ever live to see an angel being born and flying home.” I cry every time I hear this song.

2. Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House. Looks like I’m going for a theme of the whole “don’t cry for me because I’m not gone, but in a better place and still with all of you in your hearts.”

3. The Hymn of Ordinary Motion by Douglas, Barenburg & Meyer. It’s a guitar instrumental, and it’s just beautiful. Look it up on iTunes. It’s got the feel of things just moving on and on, and sounds a bit hopeful.

4. Going Home by Sophie Zelmani. Another song that sounds more hopeful than sad. And there’s some truth in it - I would be going home, because if I’ve died then God has called me home.

5. Too Soon by Eastmountainsouth. It’s always too soon when someone leaves this earth, even if they live to be 100.

Ok, that wasn’t as hard as I thought once I cruised through my iTunes library. Now, who to tag with this one? Courtney, AJ, Gouda, Penny and um, let’s see - Megan, because she has a habit of titling her posts after songs.

Movie Meme

Published by Kirsten under Movies, Tag

Ok, so I wasn’t tagged, but sometimes I have an insatiable urge to do these things. So here goes: (thanks, Gouda)

1. The last movie you saw in a theatre, and current-release movie you still want to see. Last movie in a theater: Little Miss Sunshine. Go see it, it was hysterical and sweet. I never laughed so hard. This is one that I eagerly await the DVD release of. Current movie still to see: Last Kiss. I loved Garden State, and the soundtrack, so I really want to see what Zach Braff has put together for us this time.

2. The last movie you rented/purchased for home viewing. Rented? I can’t remember, it’s been so long. Shopgirl maybe? Purchased, that would be Pushing Tin. It was in the cheapo bin at War-Mart, and I’ve never sat down and watched the whole thing. I do like to go to the airport when I have free time; there’s a parking lot on Sunset Rd that gives you a really good view of the 7/25 runways, plus you can tune your radio to listen to tower communications. Since Las Vegas is a busy airport, it’s pretty fun.

3. A movie that made you laugh out loud. Little Miss Sunshine, again. Also Tommy Boy, Office Space, Napoleon Dynamite, Benchwarmers, and other similar stupid movies.

4. A movie that made you cry. I cry a lot at movies. But let’s see, favorite movies to turn on the waterworks? Simon Birch, Beaches, The Man in the Moon - and those are just from my collection.

5. A movie that was a darling of the critics, but you didn’t think lived up to the hype. That would have to be Sideways. I turned it off halfway through. I just couldn’t get into it. Usually I like critically acclaimed movies.

6. A movie that you thought was better than the critics. Honestly, I can’t think of one right now. My head is spinning and blank at the same time with movie titles going through it, but I can’t think of any in particular that I liked that were panned.

7. Favorite animated movie. Cinderella, the original Disney version. It’s a classic.

8. Favorite Disney Villain. Favorite villain? I’m always focused on the prince!

9. Favorite movie musical. The Sound of Music. The hills are alive…

10. Favorite movies of all-time (up to five). Ok, five then. Ruby in Paradise, Muriel’s Wedding, When Harry Met Sally, A Christmas Story, and, well, I can’t think of a fifth one right now.

Now, who to tag with this one? Everyone!!!!! Ha ha ha, I am so mean!

My Name is Kirsten, and I’m a Blogaholic

Published by Kirsten under Blog, Blogaholic, Tag

Just when I thought I would be posting about my usual mundane Tuesday, I stumbled across this blog. Dr. A is a blogaholic, like me, a kindred spirit in the blogosphere. He posted the following meme, but tagged himself, if that’s possible, so I’m stealing it and posting it here.

1) Are you happy/satisfied with your blog’s content and look?
I am now, since I finally found a template I like. Good free blogger templates are hard to come by.

2) Does your family know about your blog?
More or less. My sister knows about it, but lacks internet access. I think my dad knows but not being technically inclined, has no idea what I’m talking about. My mom reads it, though I don’t know how regularly. And as for my extended family, not quite sure if they know about it and/or read it or not.

3) Do you feel embarrassed to let your friends know about your blog? Do you consider it a private thing?
My friends IRL? I think most of them know. I even have a couple IRL friends who have blogs - one is the reason why I decided to get a blog, and another is blogging most likely because of me. As far as privacy, I am hard at keeping secrets, so I’m not too worried about that. But there is one big thing I want to tell one person in particular, but I’m waiting for certain other events, which are currently in motion, to pass.

4) Did blogging cause positive changes in your thoughts?
I wouldn’t necessarily call them positive changes, but I look at everything I do now as a blog entry. I think that means I need some sort of blogging intervention or something, but I won’t let them get away with it.

5) Do you only open the blogs of those who comment on your blog or do you love to go and discover more by yourself?
The few comments I have, I check out who they came from. I also like hitting the “Next Blog” button, which is how I cam across the Bestest Blog of All-Time, which is an incredible link exhchange. I check that out daily for new stuff, and through blogging I have found quite a few other link exhchages which I still need to check out.

6) What does a visitor counter mean to you? Do you like having one on your blog?
Yes I do have a counter. I was up over 1200 posts but then my sitemeter counter disappeared for some odd reasons, and I had to go get a new counter. That’s why my count is currently so low. But the new one I have allows me to block out particular IP addresses (mine, at home and work) so the twenty thousand times a day I check it won’t artificially inflate my count.

7) Did you try to imagine your fellow bloggers and give them real pictures?
No, I learned long before blogging was even around not to do that sort of thing, because my imagination is seriously warped.

8) Admit it. Do you think there is any real benefit in blogging?
Would I be here if I didn’t think so? I really enjoy blogging. For one thing, I can hone my writing skills, and I’ve learned more about html and css than I ever thought I would. In fact, I never even heard of css before blogging. I am discovering that I am quite the tech geek, for a girl. Not sure if that is a benefit though.

9) Do you think that blogger’s society is isolated from the real world or interaction with events?
There would be no blogsophere without the real world. I don’t consider myself isolated despite the many hours I dedicate to blogging. In fact, I think I am more connected than ever.

10) Does criticism annoy you or do you feel it’s a normal thing?
Criticism is a normal thing, but it does annoy the shit out of me. I don’t take it as well as I should.

11) Do you fear some political blogs and avoid them?
I don’t fear political blogs; I detest them. I hate politics with a passion. It’s hard enough to read it in the paper or get it from the 6:00 news, but having to read someone’s overly opinionated blog on politics is just torture.

12) Were you shocked by the arrest of some bloggers?
Bloggers were arrested? I hope it wasn’t for blogging!

13) What do you think will happen to your blog after you die?
I dunno, but I’d better make provisions for it in my will.

14) What song do you like to hear? What song would you like to link to on your blog?
I don’t want music automatically played on my blog, that’s kinda annoying, especially if I’m already listening to something. I probably won’t link to any particular song either, unless it’s something I’m absolutely gushing over, which is extremely rare.

15) The next “victims”?
Any of my fellow blogaholics who happen to read my blog and feel an insatiable need to fill this damn thing out.

Temporary Email Quiz Obsession

Published by Kirsten under Computer, Internet, Tag

A bunch of Digsters have various email quizzes posted on their blogs, and for a brief moment I became obsessed with them. So, I took all the different quizzes I found and decided to answer them all. Now, you’ll notice a few redundancies, but I tried to take them out. Also, you’ll see a few inconsistencies, but that’s because it took so darn long to do them all, so questions pertaining to what I ate or what I’m wearing will have different answers depending on when I answered them.

1) Grab the book nearest to you. Turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down here what it says: …ridge of mud. Nobody was working on such a foul day. Sowerby and I…
2) Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first?
The wall

8) Before you came to this website, what did you look at? Calvin and Hobbes
9) What are you wearing? Pajamas and slipper socks
10) Did you dream last night? What about? Probably did dream but I can’t remember what about
11) When did you last laugh? Why? Last night at a commercial on TV

13) Seen anything weird lately? Nothing that I would consider weird
14) What do you think of this quiz? Fun for the moment
15) What is the last film you saw? Garden State
16) If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first? Pay off car and credit card, then consider buying a house
17) Tell me something about you that I don’t know: No, if there was something I wanted you to know I’d tell you already
18) If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do? People would respect each other
