The Return of Dr. Grandma

FINALLY, Dr. Grandma has come to her senses and come back to work with us. She even brought donuts in this morning for everyone. I still think she’s not herself after her employment-elsewhere adventures. See, the Dr. Grandma I know would not go near a donut with a 10-foot pole. She’s totally carb-o-phobic. But I did enjoy the donuts, and I’m even happier that Dr. Grandma is back with us. Now our group is complete once more.

I worked at Job#2 tonite. It was miserably slow today, but for some excitement my coworker Ashes came in with a couple of classmates from her film class. They’re shooting some sort of PSA regarding proper walking techniques in high heels, or something like that. Shoe boss was kind enough to let them use the store for filming. I was cast as an extra in the how not to walk in heels. It was pretty easy, really, since I hate heels and always wear flats. I’m being adventurous in a 1 inch heel, really. So they got shots of me wearing these:

…and I lived to tell about it. It’s a 4 1/4 inch heel, the highest we have in the store. I asked Ashes if it was possible to upload it to YouTube so you can all see my film debut. I’ll let you know what she says.

I’ve still been oversleeping a lot, which has absolutely got to stop. I’ve been looking at a couple of habits that contribute to this: caffeine and blogging, or the internet in general. Since I’ve been so tired, and soda is available at work, I’ve been sucking it down like there’s no tomorrow. New rule is that I don’t drink any caffeine after lunch. And internet – gosh, it’s so easy to lose track of time on these internets. You think you’re only spending a minute or 2 checking email and a quick rundown of a couple favorite blogs, and next thing you know the boss is calling asking if you’re seriously ill because you haven’t been in all week. It hasn’t gotten that bad with me, but I have been up till the wee hours with bloodshot eyes staring at my computer screen. So now, no computer after 10pm – 11 on weekends. As of this writing, that means I only have 25 minutes to finish this post and check my other blogs before shutting down for the night. We’ll see how that goes.

So, in the interest of time, I must be going now. Tomorrow night I don’t have to work so I’ll have more time for you all. Till then…

Just a Quick Post

Because I’m hungry and I want to eat something before it gets too late. This darn schedule is making me fat. See, because I work 2 jobs, on the nights I have to work Job#2 I eat dinner around 5:45 so I have enough energy to make it through the shift, since I don’t get a break on the short evening shifts. On nights I don’t work, I usually eat dinner around 7-7:30. Because I eat so early on work nights, I’m hungry by the time I get home and end up eating my 4th meal then. On nights I don’t work, I only eat 3 meals. If only I liked exercise and had time for it…

I found a cool new web tool – check out the calendar at the bottom of my sidebar. I found it through Blog Surfers Anonymous. There’s not a huge selection, but the calendars they have are pretty nice. Click the link under my calendar to get your own.

I also talked to my head shrinker today about plans for the future. She said she can tell that this is pretty firm for me, so I just hope that the passing of time before my lease is up doesn’t do anything to dampen those plans. I feel like I have more direction now that I ever have had for anything, and it feels good. I don’t even have any doubts about these plans either, which is a strange and unusual thing for me. Again, I hope the passing of time doesn’t bring about any doubts, since having too much time to think about things has the tendency to do that.

So, I’m off to eat ramen and go to bed. Sweet Dreams!

Yawn! Need a Nap

Wow, I am getting tired. This schedule is wearing me out. Good thing I only have 2 more days until I leave. In exactly 48 hours, they will be announcing boarding for my flight and I’ll be on my way.

Work at the office was ok. Mad Sci is back and he’s more tired than I am. He got back from the church mission trip and turned right around and got on a flight to cheese country for a friend’s wedding, so he came into the office and was desperately seeking caffeine, as was I. Good thing I stopped this morning and bought a few flats of soda. Then since he wanted to catch up with everyone, he bought the office lunch (actually, he said let’s do lunch, then I ordered it, picked it up, and used my company card to pay for it). Free lunch is always good. Thank you, Mad Scientist, for making sure none of your staff goes hungry.

I headed out of the office a little bit early since I was assigned the task at stopping at Mandalay Bay to purchase tickets to the Shark Reef for a client. I would have just ordered them online, but he’d have to pick them up with the credit card used to purchase them, along with ID that matches the name on the credit card. Plus, the client is not a local like I am, so I got the local discount, which you can only get in person. It was nice to get out of the office early, and I had a few extra minutes to stop into Urban Outfitters and look around. I don’t wear the clothes (don’t fit) but the other stuff is pretty neat. I found a cool present for Bubba on clearance for only $1, so I got that. It’s something that I would probably have gotten him anyway, but I’m glad I found it for $1. Seems the super sale vibes are definitely being sent in my direction.

Since I had to leave the office so early, I left my frozen dinner in the fridge because it would not have lasted that amount of time in the heat, so I ended up buying dinner, but at least it wasn’t because I wasn’t prepared. Then I went to work at the store, which was an ok night. First of all, whoever is stealing shoes from us, please cut the shit. And to the person who has a liking for stealing just one shoe out of the pair, what the fuck? Just leave them alone! Other than that, we made our goal, and we’re getting ready to transfer out something like 600 pairs of shoes so there are tons and tons of boxes on the floor. As long as we don’t get a huge shipment in while we wait to finish that and actually have it ship out, we’ll be ok.

So now I’m home, hoping to finish up a couple of things and get to bed at a decent hour. This lack of sleep is really affecting me – seems I’m forgetting how to drive a stick and I’ve been grinding my gears a lot, which is not good. Never mind that I’m the only person on earth who can never get it into reverse, no matter what car I drive, if it’s a stick, I won’t get it until like the 6th try, and then only with a little grinding. One thing’s for sure, I am definitely not buying another stick again. It gets old fast, especially in the city.

So here’s the spending update:
$1.11 to send out Shortcake’s CD
$1.08 for Bubba’s gift
$6.47 for a present for my mom (can’t say what it is here because she reads this. Hi Amma!)
$5.92 for dinner
$30.00 for gas since I was getting dangerously close to E and it will be at least 5 cents higher tomorrow, and the next day, and so on because of the Alaska pipeline corrosion.

So ta-ta for now. If I’m awake and having coherent thoughts maybe I’ll blog some more tomorrow.

Fastest Shower in the West

Ok, I may not have set any world records, but I have so got to stop oversleeping. I have 2 clocks set up – one next to my bed and one in the bathroom, the second one with the idea that the first thing I do is get up and pee. But lately I’ve been turning off both alarms and resetting the 1st one to a later time, then when that goes off turning it off again until I finally wake up 1/2 hour before I’m due at work, yelling “Shit!” then rush around getting ready in a half asleep stupor, forgetting half the things I’m supposed to do or meant to bring to work. So that’s my next goal – to have a little self-discipline when I get up in the morning. I’m getting a handle on the financial stuff, so now to work on the time stuff.

Yesterday was super busy at the store. Besides a boatload of shipment that we were trying to work, we did double what our sales plan was for the day, and that was with a selection of shoes at 80% off. I picked up an extra half hour just to help clean up because the store was trashed way more than usual (I think it was slob shopping day) plus we have corporate visitors in this week. There was still more that I wanted to get done but Shoe Boss threw me out. I hope she didn’t stay too late, because she’s well known for being there 2 hours after closing.

I also had a nice little surprise at work yesterday. In June we had a sales contest to see who could have the highest percentage of handbag sales. I won! It was effortless, really – I worked Memorial Day weekend when we had a great selection of 80% off handbags, so they sold themselves, really. Then I followed up the month of June with weeknights when I didn’t sell much of anything at all, so my win was all based on those 2 days when I would rather have been unpacking, since, if you remember, I had just moved. Anyhoo, I won $20 and it finally appeared in my locker yesterday. It came in pretty handy too, because I forgot to bring work snacks with me yesterday (yes, I overslept). It will also come in handy today because I never got around to making my salad for the week, therefore I have no lunch today.

So here’s the spending breakdown for yesterday:
$15 – offering at church
$3.60 – lunch
$20 GAINED!
$4.49 – mall snacks (mall food not cheap!)

Today it’s just me and Time-Flying Dudette in the office, since Mad Scientist is on a church mission trip, Colorful Texan is on vacation, and Pretty Lady Dammit has a monster migraine. Fun day today, hopefully I’ll be able to get a nap in.

Wide Awake

Why is it that when I have a day off, I sleep anywhere between 8-10 hours that night, with a nap during the day, but when I have to get up for work the next day I either can’t get to sleep early enough or I’m up at an ungodly hour? Yesterday at work I could barely keep my eyes open, had a raging headache from a lack of sleep, then I had to work job #2 last night. It wasn’t busy so I left an hour early, got home, and was asleep before my shift would have ended. Then I was wide awake at 3am. Six freaking hours of sleep is all I got. I’ve been at the computer for well over an hour now and not ready to go back to bed. I’ll have to try that last resort – heading over to the sofa with my comfy blanket and pillow and popping in an AbFab DVD. Sure, the show is funny and exciting, but I’ve seen them all so many times that it’s comforting too, and one of the only things I can watch that clears my brain so I can sleep. I know I’m gonna need to sleep because come 3pm I’ll be slumped over my desk, snoring so loudly that I’ll disturb my coworkers. I’ll suffer through the next 2 days, and of course working both jobs on Friday, then I’ll be up late Friday night and sleep till noon on Saturday.

Thank goodness this insomnia thing is rare with me, I’d go absolutely beserk if it happened any more frequently.
