Make Me Over

I talked about wearing makeup a few years ago. The main point of the article is how I have a lot of makeup but never wear it. In the picture above, you can see the majority of my collection. I left out foundation and concealer, but there’s plenty of that too.

Since we moved to New Hampshire, I’ve been contemplating a change in my approach to getting all made up. I’ve been thinking that I should put some effort into wearing it every day. It’s been a good long while since I’ve worn it on a regular basis (as in, over a decade) and I’m feeling as I get older that perhaps I should look a bit more polished when I go out.

A few days ago, I had the radical idea to throw away every last bit of makeup I have and start fresh. Then I freaked out about the money I spent on the stuff, and thought that perhaps I can work with what I have. Then I thought and thought some more. Then, after I took the pictures seen in the above collage, I realized that I have a lot of really old stuff that should have been thrown away years ago. I mean, Garden Botanika? I think the store in the mall closed long before I moved to Las Vegas. So yeah, I need to throw a lot of it away since it’s gone way past its shelf life.

Since it’s looking like I need to get rid of everything and start fresh, I was thinking that I should keep it simple rather than go on a major shopping spree for cosmetics. I would like it all to fit in my purse, if need be, and to not have a ton of products that take forever to apply. Also, I’m not that talented when it comes to applying eyeliner and shadows and such, so I need to keep it simple. I don’t mind not having a nighttime look. I’d like quality products that have good coverage and won’t make a dusty mess when I’m applying them.

So, any suggestions? Any tips for the middle-aged makeup newbie?
