How to Have a Lazy Weekend

After working all week, it’s no surprise that I like to spend my weekends doing as little as possible. Many weekends, I might go out and do a few errands (also known as SHOPPING) and then spend the rest of the weekend in front of the tv or computer.

This past weekend, Mister and I went out on Saturday to get a doggie door insert for the patio so Greta can let herself in and out. She’s afraid of the flap, so we’re using these instructions to get her more used to it, and it seems to be working just fine so far.

Anyway, after the door was installed, Mister and I were feeling the need for a nap. As everyone knows, the only appropriate place for a weekend nap is on the sofa in front of the TV. Problem was, we only have one sofa, no other chairs or recliners, so we can’t both fit on it. I was going to let Mister do the napping and spend time on the computer when Mister reminded me of something.

We have a hide-a-bed.

I should have remembered that. After all, we pulled it out a few weeks ago for the in-laws when they came to visit.

It was a genius idea. We moved the coffee table, pulled the bed out, and put some sheets, blankets, and pillows on it. Then we threw a movie into the DVD player and settled in. It was perfect – a comfortable way for both of us to get a nap in, keep an eye on the tv, and snuggle. Also? It’s close to the kitchen so we can easily get ourselves a snack if need be.

We left the bed out and repeated the nap/movie/snuggle thing on Sunday, and let me tell you, it was a great nap. There’s no better way to do it, especially when you have an awesome dog hog the bed snuggle with.

What’s your idea of the perfect lazy weekend?

Lazy Weekend: Coffee/paper, yoga, lunch at pub with hubby (including dramatic reading of Savage Love), nap, movie, pub (decide what’s for dinner), grocery store, make dinner, fall asleep watching tv, back to bed. Repeat.

It is imperative that the Lazy Weekend involve zero use of the car. I know I’ve had the best weekend when I walk out the door Monday morning and can’t remember where I parked the car Friday evening.

Sara, you must live in a bit city! I park in our garage, so if I forget where my car is, then I either had a really good weekend or a really bad one, but in either case I’d have no business going to work on Monday.

Also, I usually try to avoid cooking a proper meal on the weekend. I don’t mind throwing something in the oven, so long as the prep doesn’t go beyond “turn on oven, take food out of package.” And going out at all means my weekend isn’t all that lazy, instead it usually means that I got something done.
