Turquoise!

Note: For all those who come to my blog looking for the Hex or RGB codes for Pantone 15-5519, they are: RGB (69, 184, 172), or #45b8ac. This was answered by one of my readers in the comments below.

I’ve already told you all about my favorite color. And as some of you may or may not know, Pantone, the color gurus to the design world, choose a color of the year every year. Last year was some god-awful mustard color – not Dijon or brown mustard, but the yellow stuff that some people (not me) like to put on hot dogs. Blech. But 2010 will be different. We’ll see a much more soothing and versatile color. The Color of the Year for 2010 is Turquoise! Squee! I’m so excited. Do you know what being chosen as the color of the year means? Do you?

Turquoise

It means that you will see it EVERYWHERE! It will be so easy to find clothing, accessories, home decor, and all sorts of other stuff in the color of the year. The yucky yellow color was a bit of a bust, and I’m glad it wasn’t everywhere. But Turquoise will be, and rightly so. Color me happy.

Does anyone know what the hex code equivalent for Pantone 15-5519 is? I might want to change some blog colors to celebrate…

(Please ignore the sound of my husband’s retching. Life’s hard when the only color you like is actually the absence of color.)

Yes, I saw this, and I do have to say, I immediately thought of you.

It is a nice color. Don’t care for the bright hues, but the pale version as in the boarder of this blog…is great.

    • Kirsten says:

Kaila, I like pretty much all shades of turquoise/aqua. I haven’t really seen any hues that I don’t like. Drives Mister nuts as it’s not his favorite color.

I like “colors” but I can’t say I have a favorite one. I have a favorite one for make up, another one for clothes etc.

    • Kirsten says:

Zhu, there are lots of other colors that I like, especially those that look good with turquoise, but all the shades between blue and green are the ones that consistently make me stop and say “ooh pretty!”

    In case you were serious…

According to Pantone’s color finder, Pantone 15-5519 TCX and 15-5519 TPX correspond approximately to RGB (69, 184, 172), or #45b8ac.

Incidentally, that’s the last place I would have thought to look, but I guess they have to show you what their colors look like somehow.

    • Kirsten says:

Oooh, thanks Jordon! I looked around on their site a bit for that but couldn’t find it. Also googled it but came up empty there as well. I guess that’s what fatigue combined with impatience will do.

I will have you know that black is a wonderful color. Everything goes well with it (except white pet fur ) and it’s always in style. I do believe in the words of Henry Ford, “You can have it any color you want… as long as it’s black.”

You just enjoy your blue green stuff and I’ll revel in the black.

    • Kirsten says:

Yes, my love, I agree that black is a wonderful accent color. That’s why all the text (that isn’t a link or a header) on my blog is black. :-)

  5. Mr.L4W says:

Sorry to burst your aqua bubble, but black is a primary so that makes aqutealquois the accent color…

    • Kirsten says:

Red, yellow and blue are primaries. Aqua is a secondary (blue-green or green-blue). Black is a neutral. And black is an ACCENT color on my blog. MY blog. Get it?

You do know I love you, right?

  6. Mr.L4W says:

Sorry my love black is Primary in my wardrobe, therefore that makes it a primary color in my life and your blog your blog your blog is there just to make the black look that much better.

    • Kirsten says:

Primary? Black is the only color in your wardrobe. And listen, Max Headroom, the black is just easy to read. Which is why the text is black. But the rest of the blog is aqua. So there!

  7. Mr.L4W says:

Black is NOT the only color in my wardrobe – I have black, blue, red, and splash of white. So Black IS a primary color. It is in fact primarily the color of 95% of my clothes and 80% of everything I own. So as I said before Aquatealquois is a nice accent color for black. Infinity I win!!

    • Kirsten says:

Black is not A primary color. Just because it is THE primary color of your wardrobe, with the exception of that big pile of t-shirts you never wear, doesn’t make it A primary color in the color world. Though I do agree that black is a nice accent color for turquoise. So when will I see some turquoise accents on you? You said yourself it’s a nice accent color!

So, readers, who do you think won this one? Do you want to see Mister wearing some turquoise?

  8. Mr.L4W says:

Sweetie put your glasses on I said Aquatealquois is a nice accent color for black, meaning that you wear black primarily (because it is THE primary color) and accent it with Aquatealquois. And just because the color world doesn’t label black as a primary color, only means they have a very short sighted and uninformed on the wonders that is black, noir, sable. As for me wearing teal as an accent color well that probably won’t happen unless there is an 80′s dress up night and I am incapacitated and can’t dress myself.

    • Kirsten says:

      I thought sable was brown.

And the 80′s dress up night and your incapacitation can be arranged. >:-)

Just remember, I know where you sleep and how soundly you sleep, be nice or you will like like a mix of Pippi Longstocking, the glitter fairy and Mimi from the Drew Carey show when you wake up, with special attention paid to the combination of Aquatealquois and pink. Making it kinda like a love hate make over. =)

    • Kirsten says:

I have a whole stash of makeup just looking for a use, and I know where YOU sleep as well. You have an entire bald head to make over!

  10. Mr.L4W says:

Oh and if you try any sort of revenge I am buying a pet python and keeping it in the bed room

    • Kirsten says:

Well that’s an empty threat. You like being married to me too much to try that sort of thing.

  11. Mr.L4W says:

I will even paint Aquatealquois stripes on it for you

    • Kirsten says:

You have fun with that. Let me know how the inside of an angry legless reptile’s stomach looks.

  12. Mr.L4W says:

If that serpent was large enough to eat me you wouldn’t be in the same state as it much less the same room. Or I could just paint your cute lil Aquatealquois file cabinet say a hot pink.

    • Kirsten says:

Which is why I knew the serpent thing was a hoax! HA!

You wouldn’t want to look at a hot pink file cabinet, would you? The aqua one is so much more serene, don’t you think? (Hint: having my favorite color nearby keeps ME more serene, too!)

  13. Holly says:

Aquatealquois is my new favorite word, and a beeeeyooooteeefulll color!
Aquatealquois is the new black. ;)

    • Kirsten says:

HA! Yes! It is the new black! I totally should have thought of that one. Holly, you are awesome – thanks!

  14. Mr.L4W says:

Why go for an imitation when you can have the REAL thing!!! ” I see Aquatealquois and want to paint it black” /sing

    • Kirsten says:

When Holly said that it was the new black, she was saying that black is OUT. Aquatealquois is the newest, latest and GREATEST color. So there!
