Blonde Books
My sister, being blonde, is often the butt of many blonde jokes. But we don’t tell these jokes or make fun of her just because she’s blonde. Oh no. Very often, all she has to do is open her mouth and she walks into it every time.
A few years ago, a friend of mine was visiting me from Toronto. We had been to The World’s Biggest Bookstore when I was there (the same bookstore from the movie Short Circuit 2) and I was eager to take him to Barnes & Noble, which had recently opened in my area. My friend had also told me that I shouldn’t make so much fun of my sister, because she probably doesn’t deserve it and I was being hard on her just because we’re related. I tried to tell him, no, you don’t understand, she really IS like that. But he wouldn’t hear of it.
We went to B&N, sat in the comfy chairs and got a snack in the cafe. When we returned to my house, my sister was there, eager to make friendly and intelligent conversation. Here’s how it went down:
Sis (upon seeing the B&N bags): What did you buy?
Me: Books.
Sis: What kind of books?
Me (trying to get rid of her): The kind you read.
Now, I think the next question she asked was meant to try and have an intelligent conversation about the subject matter of the newly purchased books. But the way it came out killed all chances at a conversation along with anyone’s misconception that my sister is intelligent.
Sis: But what’s, like, the meaning of books?
My friend ran up the stairs laughing so hard that he was going to pee his pants. I know, because I heard the bathroom door slam. I just stared at my sister with a blank yet disbelieving look on my face. She didn’t understand our reactions, and there was no way I could explain it to her.
To be fair, my sister isn’t dumb. She is capable of learning and can cook a chicken much better than I can. This phase she was going through, being socially incapable of intelligent conversation, lasted until she was about 30, but she’s over it now. Mostly.

She is funny!
We all have blond moment… I do too ;-)
My husband will insist that my hair is not turning gray, but blond instead. I guess we do all have those moments, but I try to distance myself from them as much as possible.
This was too funny and made me laugh. I also have a blond sister and we have also always teased her and have had people from time to time try to defend her. However once they KNOW her they usually join in or at the very least keep their mouths shut. LoL!
My sister once got her head caught in a sheet when making a bed. Her and my mom got in a argument in a grocery store and it actually got to where they were hitting each other on the head with bags of diapers, while still in the store.
More recently she called me and left a message. I returned the call and had to leave a message. When she called to retrieve the message, some where between calling her inbox and hearing my message she forgot it was her inbox and started responding to me until her coworker asked her “Who are you talking to? Didn’t you call your voice mail?” Also she was talking about taking a trip to see a friend is Sweden. One day she calls me and tells me she got tickets to go see her friend. She starts telling me all about her trip arrangements to Amsterdam. She is 43 soon to be 44.
I hope she didn’t buy tickets to Amsterdam intending to end up in Sweden! I went to Sweden and connected in Amsterdam, but never got outside the airport there. I think we’ve already established that your sister wins when it comes to being blond!
Glad to see you back - I missed you!
Well i guess she had friends there too so her friend from Sweden agreed to meet her there. LoL!
I haven’t gone anywhere, LoL! You guys never come out to play any more. We miss you all too. Hope your both doing well.
Yeah, we’ve been hiding at home. Just haven’t felt like going out much, especially with all that’s going on. Are you still there every week?
LoL! NO WAY! We’re lucky if we make it once a month. LoL! When we do make it we don’t stay too long, just pop in to say hi. Kinda tired of the same place, same food, same conversation. LoL! Not too many people have been showing up any way, the last couple times we went was just us, Sunny, Jim, a guy named Keith i think. We have only made it to one brunch, the last one, and it was the same people except two women I’m not really sure who they were.
Yeah, the repetition is one of the reasons we’re not to eager to go, even when we do get a bit restless. That and all the smoke is a huge reason to not want to go. But I’m sure one of these years we’ll venture out again.
