What’s So Great About It?

So I went and signed up for a Twitter account.  I’m not so sure what the big deal is, and as a blogger it just seems redundant.  I have a blog to tell you all what I’m up to, so I don’t know what’s so exciting about me sending updates every half hour telling you what I’m doing.  Seriously?  Do you all need to know that?

Anyway, I signed up for an account to see a bit more about it, and to get my usual user name before anyone else does.  And I did add the widget to my sidebar, so if any of you want to follow me, you can.  But please, please tell me why in the world I need to tweet if I have a blog?

I think some bloggers use Twitter as a promotion tool with the help of some RSS-to-Twitter services. I guess that would be helpful for reaching out to people who live on Twitter, but I don’t see the appeal either.

  2. I’m still not getting it either. But should I tweet about the leftover ham and beans I’m having for lunch (again)? Is that really what it’s all about?

I guess. But people probably use Twitter for a lot of different things. I’ve also seen it used almost for carrying on conversations, like

    “@Kirsten: Oh yeah, thanks!”

or whatever. That would get annoying fast, though.

  4. I’ve seen that too, but the thing that annoys me the most is when I visit someone’s blog and instead of seeing proper blog posts, all I see is a series of tweets. I have yet to decide if mine will be well used or gather dust, but at least mine is in the sidebar.

BTW, I had el cheapo store brand macaroni and cheese for dinner tonite. It was disgustingly satisfying.

I still can’t believe there’s a twittersphere (sphere of twits?) that are seriously hanging on my every word like that.
