I slept in this morning, then spent what was left of the morning updating my Blogroll page. I was using the Blogrolling service, but when I went to edit my blogroll this morning, it seems that they are having technical issues over there. So I made the decision to scrap blogrolling and put regular links in there, for a number of reasons.
First and foremost, problems like this. I don’t want my blogroll to depend on someone else’s technology. Sure, I chose it in the first place because it was much easier to update than regular links, but there are other downsides. It have a Blogrolling blogroll on your blog, you need to install a javascript code. That means that if you want people see that you link to them, they won’t if the link is hidden in javascript. Organic links like I put in during the overhaul are better in terms of SEO, at lest for everyone that I link to. That, in turn, should help me out. The incoming links will show up now in everyone’s stats, and maybe there are some of you that don’t know who I am and don’t know that I am reading your blog. Hopefully it will bring me a few new visitors. The blogroll will be more difficult to maintain, in terms of steps I need to take to maintain it, but ultimately it gives me more control over the links in it.
So, for all my linkees, if I’ve put the wrong link in there (I did a lot of copy/paste) and I need to fix it, let me know. Also, if you like the links out there to be known as something else, let me know. I myself prefer that if someone is going to link to me, they use the name of my site (All About Me – And Then Some) or they use my online name, KirstenL4W. I hate when I see blogrolls full of first names only, so I don’t do that here, but I also know that how I name the link can affect search engine rankings, so again, let me know. And, one more thing, if you read me on a regular basis and can’t understand why I never visit, let me know and I’ll check you out. I might not know about you! Just be sure to read my Disclosure policy regarding linking, because I don’t link to people for the sole reason that they link to me.
Now I’m off to update my feeds in Google Reader. Later!

I just updated to google reader a few days ago, and finished importing my blog list (by hand!) as of this morning. I used safari browser before, and although it did provide a handy reader, it often would not show me the new posts (or) it would mark new posts read when I hadn’t seen them yet. The other negative was that it doesn’t provide an exporter for the blogs you are subscribed to. I think this is the 4th reader I have tried, I am keeping my fingers crossed that google won’t let me down. So good to read your posts! Robin
I’ve been using Google reader for a year and a half now. It’s the first one I tried and it’s been pretty good to me. The only thing I wish it would do, that I found out yesterday, is let me edit a feed address. I had a few that I had to delete and then re-subscribe to. But then again, people shouldn’t go changing their feeds like that without warning.
We should totally try to get the guys together soon. I wanted to be over ambitious this year and make holiday cards, so they can do what they do and we can make cards.
Buildings and updating a blogroll is *a lot* of works. I rely on people to tell me if a url is wrong as well because it’s hard to keep up.
Now, I’m glad to see mine there! ;-)
Hopefully I’ll be more vigilant with it now. I’ve got it to match my reader, so I’ll do my best to make sure they match, and are therefore updated.
Lets do it Kirsten! Kids are home 24/7 now so any excuse to get together is good. I could make dinner for all of us…. please email me with a good night and we’ll make it happen. We were just saying how much we miss you guys too. Hugs!
As soon as Mister is feeling better – he’s been a bit under the weather for a few weeks, so we’ve been staying in a lot lately. But yeah, we really need to plan something.
