Shrimpy Lessons

Published by Kirsten at 9:02 pm under Food

I have never cooked shrimp before.  I sure know how to order it in a restaurant, though.  So the other day, I bought some shrimp at the store to have for dinner.  I knew how I wanted to cook them, and the cooking part was really easy.  The before the cooking part was a pain in the arse.  Here’s a tip - when you are buying uncooked shrimp, make sure that they are peeled and deveined.  Trust me, the last thing you want to be doing is spending a half hour disemboweling your dinner so that you can cook it.

Needless to say, I will be paying more attention to what I put in my cart.  Labels are there for a reason.

I just recently started eating shrimp after 34 years of not eating seafood!!! They are my new favorite food!!! My husband and I experiment with all different kinds of marinades and grill them…..yummy!!!!!

Oooh, yeah! I always just buy the pre-cooked frozen shrimps. If you want to just eat them uncooked, shrimp-cocktail style, then all you have to do is run them under hot water enough to unfreeze them. And if you want them cooked, it’ll take like 5 minutes only.

    Shrimps are great!!!

KFJ, I was never really keen on shrimp because I only knew it as rubbery, cold little things. Mister has been introducing me to new recipes, and shrimp is fast becoming one of my favorite ocean foods (Maine lobster will always be #1).

Puppie, if I get the fresh (previously frozen) ones that have never been cooked, and they are peeled and deveined, then it only takes 5 minutes to cook them. It’s making sure I buy the ones that already have all the hard work done to them.

Same here. I’m good at cooking stuffs but not so good at prep meat of fish or seafood.

You’re soo right… after you disembowel your dinner it just doesn’t taste the same

Zhu, here’s another not good a meat prep story: last night, as I was getting chicken ready for dinner, I dropped a boneless chicken breast in the sink, and it slid towards the drain - and down the disposal. Good thing I had extra!

Cute post! But how did the shrimp dinner turn out? Scallops (large kind) are very tasty and no hassles. I fell down the steps today and I messed up my knee. Ouch! New address for my blog, nothing there yet but I will be working on it. See you soon!

Hi Robin! The shrimp turned out awesome! I’ll have to try scallops sometime - I do love scallops. I hope your knee feels better, and get some content on your new blog soon!
