Beauty Queen

I’ve been on a beauty product kick lately, probably due to my upcoming wedding. Usually I can’t be bothered to get all dolled up, preferring a more natural look. Don’t go thinking that I go for that au naturel look and its resulting grunginess. No, I do look neat and clean. Just plain, kind of like Saffy on AbFab. Oh yes, that’s me.

Has anyone tried the Intuition razor? I was thinking that it might be worth a try, since I have issues with the shower. I mean, first it takes so much time to lather up, then my shower head sprays water out so far that it’s impossible to stand anywhere or put my leg where the water doesn’t spray. I figured I’d try this.

My first impression upon taking it out of the box was that it was cheap. Cheap as in not very good quality. The razor looks like a basic disposable, the handle is hollow so not much heft there, and it’s encased in basically a bar of soap. It took me a few swipes to get the hang of it, as finding the right angle was difficult. I did manage to get my legs shaved, but resorted to the regular razor for over my knee area and the armpits. I was just not comfortable with that angle thing in those areas. My final assessment is that it is a great concept, but the execution needs a bit more work. I will probably use it again out of sheer laziness.

Now, Bare Minerals makeup. This is something I’ve been interested in trying for a long time, and with my wedding coming up, I decided to go for it.  I mentioned it on LJ and one of my internet friends said she had a barely used kit that she was willing to sell me, as the stuff made her face itch. I jumped at the offer. A few weeks later I got a package in the mail and set about playing with the stuff. Seemed OK, didn’t give me mask like coverage, which was nice. I like a more natural look. I decided to wear the Mineral Veil to work for a week, and I started noticing something different. My glasses don’t slide down my nose, and I’m not wiping the shine off my face. And even better, it doesn’t even feel like I’m wearing makeup at all! Everyone, this stuff totally rocks. I just went out and bought the fair foundation (since light and fairly light were too dark) and the concealer to hide luggage under my eyes.  I want to look awake in my wedding pictures, not like I haven’t slept in a week. Bare Minerals earns a huge thumbs up, and it’s something I’m trying to incorporate into my day to day routine because I like it that much.

    Hi Kirsten,
I missed seeing you last thursday. I’m still recuperating though. I have and do use the Intuition razor and i LOVE it. Though it is bulky and a bit expensive. I will tell you i only use it for intimate places.
I have also been curious about the Bare Minerals and have wanted to try it. I haven’t because my skin is oily and i sweat a lot so that keeps me from wearing foundation of any type. I must say though i have heard now on two different boards people raving about it. I may break down and give it a try.
I hope to see you thursday. Have a GREAT week.

Hi Kelly! Glad to hear you are doing well. We missed you too on Thursday.

As far as the Intuition goes, I think I’m going to keep it to my thighs, because I don’t trust it in difficult areas. And with all that bulk, I don’t think it’d be worth trying it down there, since I’d likely have to go over most all of it again with a regular razor.

I do highly recommend the Bare Minerals. My skin gets oily too, and the mineral veil is seriously the best thing to help control oil, and it doesn’t feel like anything at all. Isn’t your birthday in a couple of months? ;-)

Hey Kirsten, I’m going to try that bare minerals too. My daughter raves about it. Love getting your blog, you talk about normal stuff but the way you word things makes it very interesting. Hope to see you soon, Robin

It took me a little while to get used to the Intuition, but once I got the hang of it I was fine. I actually find it pretty easy to use for underarms, as long as both surfaces are sopping wet! Honestly haven’t thought of using it downstairs, but I agree with you, I think it’d be too bulky and awkward.

Robin, I’ll say it again, Bare Minerals ROCKS! And your blog – you’ve been holding out on me. We’ll have to get the guys together so they can play guitar and sample some more alcohol while we break out the mango mixer and art supplies. I’m a repressed paper freak ever since I worked for a graphic design firm.

Kelly Marie – thanks for visiting! I’m not giving up on the Intuition because I think the concept is great, but I’m still not sure at this point that I want it to totally replace my Quattro.

    Kirsten:

I’ve been using the intuition razer for years. I love anything that cuts down on time, and doesn’t cut me in the process.

Kaila, I do love the time savings, but I’m still not sure about how it will handle in more complicated areas, like my knees. It doesn’t take much for me to slice myself shaving, so I still need to practice more with this one.

I have never heard of Bare Minerals but I gotta try that.

I’m not very sophisticated and I like a natural look. I’m usually too lazy to take time to put make up on in the morning (plus I’m too sleepy and may end up with lipstick on my eyes).

I used to love Urban Decay but they are more into nice eyeshadows, not the natural thing.

As for razor, I bought mine five years ago, at least. Best I could find compared to all the high tec stuffs now!

Zhu, I think Bare Minerals is perfect for those of us who don’t like wearing makeup and don’t have much talent for it. I haven’t tried their eyeshadows, but the colors are great for a natural look.

Mineral makeup rocks. . .seriously. I like that most of the Bare Minerals is natural (aside from a couple of ingredients). I sell my own stuff (no unnatural ingredients), but still use the mineral veil (I had a lot left over).

One thing I found was that I needed to moisturize like crazy, especially around the eye area.

As a hint, if you do have a dry area on your face, coconut oil (the pure stuff) or emu oil really helps.

Also another tip with the minerals, you can use them on your legs to cover up anything. I have a few spider veins that really irk me, when I do wear shorts, out comes the minerals, and voila, they are as hidden as a trap door spider.

The all-natural thing is a huge bonus, but more simply I just really like the way it feels and the way it looks. I haven’t been using it long, but I think I’ll need to get some more mineral veil soon! And thanks so much for the tip about using it on the legs – I do have a spot that I’d like to cover without having to resort to that other stuff that you use a trowel to get on.

I too need to moisturize around the eyes more than anywhere else, but the rest of my face is shiny yet gets flaky at the same time. I should exfoliate more, and Origins has one that I like.

Would love to Kirsten (re: paper freaks) but I am wayyyy new to the real paper stuff (as opposed to digital, lol!) Let me know when things calm down for you, we’ll have a proper party to celebrate *grins*

Hey, I love paper, I didn’t say I was any good at any of it. I don’t have too much experience either but I can learn!
