It’s Not Cold…There

Published by Kirsten at 1:20 pm under Weather

I talked to my sister yesterday, and she was complaining that it was cold out a few days back. She even had to bundle up the baby! That’s great, because it’s cold all over the place right now, but I have just one issue with that - what Sis calls cold was actually 70°F. She lives in Southwest Florida! It just doesn’t get cold there. Even here in the desert, the current temperature in Las Vegas is 40°F, and with the wind chill the weather report says it feels like 30°F. That’s below freezing. 70 is not freezing, I don’t care how many sweaters you thin-blooded Floridians have to put on. We’ll get 70° weather, in the spring, and for about a week before temps soar past 100° and stay there.

When freezing temperatures cause the orange crops to shrivel up and die, making oranges as hot a commodity as copper is right now, then you can complain, but please don’t complain about 70°.

i agree! your sister needs to swap places with me here in Michigan so she can feel what cold really is!

…and how do you handle the head in the summer? it scares me so much that i won’t head out there in the summer.

Oh the summers are another story. It’s a dry heat, so we don’t sweat like you do, but we do drink lots and lots of water and limit our time outdoors. Honestly I’m starting to not be able to tolerate the summers - when we get a heat wave (days over 110) I start getting sick.

Its too Hot in here! Ya… Well sometimes we want a bit of brighter side of weather. I live in Sri Lanka and it practically 28 C through out the year!

Sham, I would love it if it were 28C here all the time (that’s 82-83F for Americans). That sounds absolutely perfect!

It was 2 here the last I checked. That’s pretty cold. The high on Saturday is supposed to be -2F, with a low of around -18F. That’s COLD.

If you have to put a minus in front of your temperature because zero is not low enough, then you earn the right to complain about the cold. I don’t miss that level of cold - your lungs hurt and nose hairs freeze.

I agree! When I hear people complaining about the cold and it’s 30-40 degrees out, I have to laugh. It’s not truly cold until your locks freeze shut, your damp hair freezes on the way to the car, and people start dying. Let us know when you have bodies!

My mom’s sliding door froze shut once - when the cat was on the outside. Mom was trying to thaw it with a blowdryer while the cat was too dumb to go to the front of the house. Cat just sat outside meowing really loudly, but it wasn’t a distress meow, it was a mad meow.
