Getting Back in the Groove
Well, I survived my first few days back. I got home around midnight, got to sleep around 3am and got to the office around 10am on Thursday. I somehow made it through work, both at the office and at Job#2. I didn’t get as much sleep as I wanted to Thursday night, but then again, when do I ever get enough sleep? Friday I was a bit more awake and able to function, and worked both jobs again. I did get out of the office a little early on Friday, so I went to my apartment office to complain about the notice I got in the mail from them. For some reason they think I never paid my rent for June. I moved in May 26, and at the time paid a full month’s rent so June was prorated. I paid that in person and got a receipt for it, which was good thinking on my part, so I presented that receipt and the printout from my bank showing that particular check had been cashed. I still need to go over to them today to see if they had researched it on their end.
While I was in the apartment office yesterday, I told them that there are quite a few lights on the property that aren’t working. Since no one from the staff works at night, I volunteered to walk the property and mark all the lights that are out. It took me an hour (after working both jobs, don’t forget), but I think I got them all. Boy are the maintenance people gonna hate me after they spend the next month changing light bulbs.
Today I am off, thank goodness, and finally got around to sorting through all my mail and paying bills. Feels good to get that done; I hate not knowing exactly how much money I have. Also, while I was away, the refund check for my cordless drill charger came in, but the bank is closed already so I’ll cash that on Monday. I’ve also been thinking about the spending thing I’ve been doing here, and frankly, it’s really tedious. I’m in the habit now of being more careful with my spending, and since I have some firm goals in mind, goals that have deadlines, I think I’ll be able to keep up with it. I did charge one thing while I was away, but it was with permission from my dad. I charged the cancellation fee for my gym membership. Dad helped me out with that in providing a utility bill and his fax machine so I could fax it all in. Pretty Lady Dammit was able to get out of hers, so I’m hoping mine gets cancelled before my next monthly fee comes due. I’ll let you know. But getting back to spending updates, I won’t be posting those anymore unless I feel like I need to (as in, if I feel I’m getting out of hand).
I have tons of laundry to do, which will get done sometime today since it’s the only time I have to do it and I have nothing to wear to work tomorrow. I also have to go grocery shopping since I haven’t had a chance to do that yet, and I’d really like to go to the movies tonite but I don’t think that will happen since I stayed in bed until 11 this morning. I also have some housecleaning to do that didn’t get done before my vacation, including picking up the remnants of a light bulb from when a lamp fell off my desk. At least I thought to unplug it before I left so I wouldn’t burn the place down.
So, here are some of my final vacation thoughts. My mom gave me a MicroSteamer, which I had been seriously coveting.
She sells Tupperware so I knew she’d have easy access to one. It’s purdy - a charcoal gray with fuschia insert, and even though it doesn’t exactly match my kitchen I like it. When I grocery shop later I’ll shop with using it in mind.
And here’s some advice: Never buy a cheap suitcase. It’s worth it to spend the dough and buy a durable one. Here’s what I found while I was unpacking:
It should look like this:
I guess the way they are checking for explosives is to throw the bags violently about to see if it blows up on impact.
Right now as I’m writing this my mom keeps trying to call me, but she’s in an area that has crappy cell coverage (that would be most of NH). Silly thing is, she keeps trying. I’ve had about 4 or 5 calls now from her cell. This last call I told her to stop trying unless she has more than 1 bar. When I heard her and she couldn’t hear me she told me to call her at Grandma’s later tonite. She’s on her way there now, over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house we go.
One more picture for everyone. It’s the first picture I took of my niece Mia, who is due to arrive in December.
That’s my Grandma in the background. Even though her parents were from Sweden and my mom insists on my sister’s kids calling her MorMor (that doesn’t work, they call her Amma), Mom even tried to get Bubba and Messy J to call Grandma “Gamla MorMor” which translates to Ancient Mother’s Mother. Grandma wouldn’t hear of it. She spoke Swedish at home as a child but she wants to be Great, not ancient, so the kids call her Great Grandma.
That’s about all for now, my mind is all over the place with all the things I have to do, starting with a shower. Later gators!

what a great post…i’m sure you’re still tired but at least you got to catch up a bit. vacations are great but you need a recovery period. definitely.
when you do get around to going to a movie, i thoroughly suggest Little Miss Sunshine. Go see it and tell me what you think. if we’re the long lost twins we seem to be, then you’ll adore it.
That’s the movie I want to see! I was wanting to see it when it first came out, but after reading your post it shot to the top of my list. I didn’t have time on Saturday, but I might try to squeeze it in this week.
